Code of Conduct for Clay Minerals Society Conferences
The Clay Mineral Society is committed to the philosophy of equality of opportunity and treatment for all members, regardless of age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, color, ethnicity, country of origin, religion or religious belief, marital status, physical appearance, body size, disability, or any other reason not related to scientific merit. The conference will maintain a code of conduct.
We are committed to providing an harassment-free environment for our participants. We will not tolerate scientific misconduct or harassment of any sort. All attendees are expected to behave according to professional scientific standards and to maintain appropriate standards of behavior. Attendees will not engage in harassment, intimidation, or discrimination of any meeting participant.
This includes:
- sustained disruption of talks or other events,
- inappropriate physical contact,
- sexual attention or innuendo,
- deliberate intimidation,
- stalking, and intrusive photography, or
- recording of an individual without consent.
Reporting misconduct
A participant who feels that they have been harassed at the event may report the matter to the organizer(s) of the conference or relevant security authority at the conference site. Any attendee who believes that an incident of scientific or ethical misconduct has taken place, by an individual or group of individuals, is encouraged to contact the organizers by email: cms@clays.org. A participant who witnesses such harassment can also make such a report to the event staff and organizers, but it will be kept confidential.
Addressing misconduct
Anyone requested to discontinue unacceptable behavior is expected to cease immediately. The event staff, and meeting organizing committee members, security, or law enforcement personnel shall take action(s) deemed necessary and appropriate to address misconduct. Actions may range from a verbal warning to immediate removal from the meeting or activity without refund of registration fee.
