U.S. Domestic travel
You will fly to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu, Hawaii. There are non-stop flights from HNL to cities such as (but not limited to), Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Newark, New York, Oakland, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle-Tacoma. We encourage you to book early according to your travel plan.
There are no travel restrictions for travel into Hawaii from the Continental U.S. as well as travel within the Hawaiian Islands. As of March 26, 2023, you no longer need to quarantine, take a COVID-19 pre-travel test or show proof of vaccination. Please check your airline for their specific requirement as your trip gets closer.
How to get to your lodging destination and get back to the HNL airport.
It is approximately 9 miles between the airport and the campus (20-30 minutes by car). There are four options.
- A rental car option at the HNL airport. Please reserve your car according to your travel plan.
- Use shared & private airport transfer services: There is a transfer service by SpeediShuttle or Roberts Hawaii for you to get to/from the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) and your Lodging Destination on Oahu.
- Taxi service
- There is a public bus that comes to the airport, but it’s not advisable to catch The Bus on arrival due to strict baggage rules. No backpacks with metal frames allowed, no bag may be larger than 22′′ (55cm) x 14′′ (35cm) x 9′′ (22cm). Bags must be placed under the feet or on the lap.
- Use Uber or Lyfts. Be sure to download the app before your arrival.
SpeediShuttle (https://www.speedishuttle.com/reservations). SpeediShuttle provides affordable on-demand door to door service from the airport to your home, office or hotel and departs within 20 minutes of check-in at the designated pickup zone.

Inouye International Airport. The state established this Airport Open Taxi Management system so taxi drivers from all taxi companies would be able to pick-up passengers at the airport. Taxi Service is available on the center median fronting the terminal baggage claim areas. See the taxi dispatchers (yellow shirts with black lettering, and the wording “TAXI DISPATCHER” for service. The fare from the airport to the East-West Center during non-rush hour periods is approximately $40.00-$50.00, plus a baggage charge of 50 cents per bag. Fare is by meter only.

Getting around Hononulu
If you decided to Stay at a hotel near Waikkiii beach, you are responsible for your transportation.
There are three ways to commute to the campus.
- Rental car and find your parking space on campus.
- Bus. There is a direct Bus from the Ala Moana shopping center to the campus. You can buy an Adult HOLO Card preloaded with a day pass (i.e., a prepaid bus pass) at any ABC store (i.e., it is a convenience store in Hawaii. It is everywhere in Honolulu).
To keep using the card after the day pass expires, simply reload at https://holocard.net/fares-and-passes/ or at ABC store.
It is best to walk to a bus stop in front of Ala Moana Shopping center that is located at north west side of Waikiki. It will take you to the campus.

- There are several transportation companies with an app (Uber, Lyft and Holoholo) in Waikiki. You need to download ride-sharing apps that enable you to hail on-demand private drivers. But please remember that it is difficult to get a ride during the morning (7-9am) and afternoon (4-6pm) rush hours.
